SEASON 7
Meet 1: Kyalami,
05/03/03
There was a better turnout (12
overall) than at the end of last season and those that played
enjoyed a very good night's racing with close finishes, good tussles
and few controversial incidents. Everyone went away well
pleased except perhaps the Bas/Anaconda group who suffered
from router problems at their end and missed one or more of
the races.
There were 3 different race
winners. Unbelievably, in Race 1, I won my second race in a row,
then Jimmac was back to form in winning Race 2 and finally Bas
showed he will be a contender this season by winning Race 3.
Overall, however, none of the
race winners could produce consistent form and the meet was
won by newcomer Ian Clark who was consistent and did well
enough to reap the benefit of a 10 point car bonus. Jimmac got
second overall and another newcomer, Ron O'Dell was 3rd. I couldn't
maintain the standard after the first race and was well down the
field by Race 3 after a disastrous first lap.
Numbers are still low and at
least one of the newcomers will not race regularly. Consequently,
there was a lot of talk in the Chat after the race about
possible changes. The suggestions included:
1) Boosting numbers by merging
with another league.
2) Changing the race format to
1 short + 1 long instead of 3 short races. This would give the same
number of race laps but less waiting and fewer practice laps so we
ought to finish earlier (but there would be less opportunity to
reconnect if you had a problem).
3) Having one or more Pro
races with no shift R. If we did that it would remove all claim to
be remotely a beginners league.
4) Advertising and recruiting
more vigorously.
F1 has put a post on the Race
Sim Central Forum and I made sure our league entry in GPL Rank is up
to date. Let us know if you think there are other places we should
advertise.
